Heliamphora ionasi Killer Giant (Shipped Bare-Root)

Heliamphora ionasi 'Killer Giant' represents the species at its most impressive—a high-altitude Venezuelan endemic from between Ilu and Tramen Tepui (1800–2600m) that produces the genus's largest pitchers, reaching 50 cm tall and lined with distinctive downward-facing hairs up to 11 mm long. This cultivar's towering form and vigorous growth make it a commanding presence in any serious collection, demanding space and commitment but rewarding with unmatched presence and the species's characteristic dramatic pitcher development.

Care Requirements

Light — Bright indirect light or moderate direct sun. Avoid intense midday sun — Heliamphora prefer cooler, highland conditions.

Water — Pure water only, under 50ppm dissolved solids. Use distilled, reverse osmosis, or collected rainwater. Most tap water will not work. Keep the pitchers partially filled with water and the soil consistently moist.

Temperature — Cool to intermediate. Day temps of 65–80°F (18–27°C) with cooler nights of 45–60°F (7–16°C). Many species require cool nights year-round.

Soil — Pure long-fiber sphagnum moss or a mix of peat and perlite. Garden soil will not work.

Humidity — High humidity preferred, 60–90%. A terrarium or greenhouse setup is ideal for most species.
