Heliamphora ionasi 'Zappergeck' showcases the species' signature waisted pitchers with remarkably long interior hairs—the longest in the genus—accented by a striking red oval nectar spoon. This cultivar's greenish-golden coloration contrasted against deep red lids sets it apart, displaying the pinkish-orange exteriors and complex interior mottling characteristic of this rare endemic from the Ilu-Tramen valley of Gran Sabana.
Care Requirements
Light — Bright indirect light or moderate direct sun. Avoid intense midday sun — Heliamphora prefer cooler, highland conditions.
Water — Pure water only, under 50ppm dissolved solids. Use distilled, reverse osmosis, or collected rainwater. Most tap water will not work. Keep the pitchers partially filled with water and the soil consistently moist.
Temperature — Cool to intermediate. Day temps of 65–80°F (18–27°C) with cooler nights of 45–60°F (7–16°C). Many species require cool nights year-round.
Soil — Pure long-fiber sphagnum moss or a mix of peat and perlite. Garden soil will not work.
Humidity — High humidity preferred, 60–90%. A terrarium or greenhouse setup is ideal for most species.
