This is the same fish pellet fertilizer I use for Nepenthes, Heliamphora, and Sarracenia, now in a bigger 4 ounce cup with larger pellets. These are sized for larger pitchers, so if your plant has grown past the point where a small pellet gets lost or breaks down too fast, this is the size to move up to. It is a gentler feeding method than granular slow release fertilizers like Osmocote or Nutricote, and it does not usually rock the pitcher as fast, so it is a good option if you want a lighter, more natural feeding routine for these three genera.
Feeding directly into the pitcher gets nutrients to the plant close to how it would happen in the wild, where insects and other small prey fall in and break down over time. A single fish pellet dropped into a pitcher does the same job, just cleaner and more controlled.
Quick Guide: Feeding With Fish Pellets
Best for: medium to large Nepenthes, Heliamphora, and Sarracenia. This is a pitcher feeding method, not a soil fertilizer.
How much: one to two pellets per pitcher, depending on pitcher size.
How often: every one to two weeks.
Pellet size: these are the larger pellets, sized right for larger pitchers on medium to large plants. If your plant has smaller pitchers, grab the 2oz cup of small pellets instead, a large pellet can be too much for a small pitcher to handle.
Why fish pellets: a more delicate feeding method that breaks down slowly and steadily, gentler on the pitcher than a hit of granular fertilizer.
Note: Fertilizer only, no pot or plant included. Use tweezers or a small pick to drop the pellet directly into the pitcher fluid.
