*Drosera capensis* 'Stemming Wideleaf (Bainskloof) CK' is a striking South African form collected from Bainskloof Pass in the Western Cape, renowned for its dramatically enlarged, oval-shaped leaves—2-3 times broader than typical Cape sundews—held upright on thick, sturdy petioles. Brilliant green foliage densely covered in red tentacles creates a compact, stocky rosette that captures prey with exceptional efficiency.
This plant originates from the collection of Noah Juve of Insectsinside Nursery, a trusted source for rare and high-quality carnivorous plants.
Care Requirements
Light — Full sun, 6+ hours of direct sunlight daily. A south-facing window, outdoor placement, or grow lights work well.
Water — Pure water only, under 50ppm dissolved solids. Use distilled, reverse osmosis, or collected rainwater. Most tap water will not work. Use the tray method — keep roots sitting in a shallow tray of water.
Soil — Pure peat moss or long-fiber sphagnum, with optional perlite or sand added for drainage. Garden soil will not work.
Dormancy — Varies by species. Temperate Drosera require 3–4 months of cool winter dormancy. Tropical and subtropical species grow year-round and do not require dormancy.
Humidity — Moderate to high humidity preferred. Most sundews adapt well to open-air growing once established.
Shipping & What to Expect
Our bare root Drosera (sundews) are shipped according to their natural growing cycle. During the active growing season you will receive a plant with live leaves and dew-covered tentacles. Temperate species shipped in winter dormancy will arrive without active leaves — this is completely normal and essential for long-term health.
Please note that the plant and photo shown are representative of the variety but not the exact plant you will receive. Each plant is unique, and we guarantee a healthy, established root system ready to grow.
