Heliamphora folliculata Murosipan Tepui represents one of the Aparaman group's most striking endemic pitchers, thriving at 1700–2400m elevation across four Venezuelan tepuis. Long, tubular pitchers transition from golden yellow to vibrant orange, pink, and red as they mature, while the distinctive concave nectar spoon—featuring a protective hollow chamber for storing costly extrafloral nectar—emerges boldly from the pitcher's back, a sophisticated adaptation against tropical rains. Andreas Wistuba's careful propagation preserves this remarkable highland specialist for devoted collectors.
Care Requirements
Light — Bright indirect light or moderate direct sun. Avoid intense midday sun — Heliamphora prefer cooler, highland conditions.
Water — Pure water only, under 50ppm dissolved solids. Use distilled, reverse osmosis, or collected rainwater. Most tap water will not work. Keep the pitchers partially filled with water and the soil consistently moist.
Temperature — Cool to intermediate. Day temps of 65–80°F (18–27°C) with cooler nights of 45–60°F (7–16°C). Many species require cool nights year-round.
Soil — Pure long-fiber sphagnum moss or a mix of peat and perlite. Garden soil will not work.
Humidity — High humidity preferred, 60–90%. A terrarium or greenhouse setup is ideal for most species.
