Heliamphora pulchella from Akopan Tepui commands attention with its stout pitchers bearing distinctive silvery-lined interiors created by fine retentive hairs, crowned by helmet-shaped nectar spoons held directly above bell-shaped openings. At elevations of 1,850–2,550 meters on Venezuela's Chimanta Massif, this species develops deep maroon to purple coloration under strong light—a striking presence that shifts to muted greens in lower conditions. AW's carefully propagated specimens bring this high-altitude specialist within reach of dedicated collectors.

Care Requirements

Light — Bright indirect light or moderate direct sun. Avoid intense midday sun — Heliamphora prefer cooler, highland conditions.

Water — Pure water only, under 50ppm dissolved solids. Use distilled, reverse osmosis, or collected rainwater. Most tap water will not work. Keep the pitchers partially filled with water and the soil consistently moist.

Temperature — Cool to intermediate. Day temps of 65–80°F (18–27°C) with cooler nights of 45–60°F (7–16°C). Many species require cool nights year-round.

Soil — Pure long-fiber sphagnum moss or a mix of peat and perlite. Garden soil will not work.

Humidity — High humidity preferred, 60–90%. A terrarium or greenhouse setup is ideal for most species.
