Heliamphora pulchella Apacapa represents one of the most striking variants from this acclaimed Chimanta Massif species, originating from the high-altitude Apacapa tepui at 1850–2550m. Deep crimson pitchers reach 8 inches tall with distinctive silvery-sheathed interiors and helmet-shaped nectar spoons, while intensely colored foliage shifts from dark maroon in strong light to moody green-tinged tones in cultivation—a living demonstration of why Andreas Wistuba selected this clone for serious collectors.
Care Requirements
Light — Bright indirect light or moderate direct sun. Avoid intense midday sun — Heliamphora prefer cooler, highland conditions.
Water — Pure water only, under 50ppm dissolved solids. Use distilled, reverse osmosis, or collected rainwater. Most tap water will not work. Keep the pitchers partially filled with water and the soil consistently moist.
Temperature — Cool to intermediate. Day temps of 65–80°F (18–27°C) with cooler nights of 45–60°F (7–16°C). Many species require cool nights year-round.
Soil — Pure long-fiber sphagnum moss or a mix of peat and perlite. Garden soil will not work.
Humidity — High humidity preferred, 60–90%. A terrarium or greenhouse setup is ideal for most species.
