This natural hybrid of H. nutans × glabra combines the graceful pitcher morphology of nutans with exceptional vigor and size, producing mature pitchers reaching 10 inches with striking red and green coloration. First cultivated at Oxford Botanical Garden and later distributed through Andreas Wistuba, H. × nutans Giant represents a remarkable example of Heliamphora's diversity across multiple tepui populations including Mt Roraima and Wei Assipu.
Care Requirements
Light — Bright indirect light or moderate direct sun. Avoid intense midday sun — Heliamphora prefer cooler, highland conditions.
Water — Pure water only, under 50ppm dissolved solids. Use distilled, reverse osmosis, or collected rainwater. Most tap water will not work. Keep the pitchers partially filled with water and the soil consistently moist.
Temperature — Cool to intermediate. Day temps of 65–80°F (18–27°C) with cooler nights of 45–60°F (7–16°C). Many species require cool nights year-round.
Soil — Pure long-fiber sphagnum moss or a mix of peat and perlite. Garden soil will not work.
Humidity — High humidity preferred, 60–90%. A terrarium or greenhouse setup is ideal for most species.
