Pinguicula 'Gina' (P. zecheri x agnata) - Mexican Butterwort (Shipped Bare-Root)

Pinguicula 'Gina'

Pinguicula zecheri x agnata

'Gina' is one of the easiest hybrids I grow, and one of the oldest, registered back in 1998. It takes the broad, curled leaf edge from its agnata parent and the showier bloom from zecheri, and it will flower more or less year round once it settles in, which is more than you can say for most Pinguicula.

The rosette stays mostly green, with leaves that can pick up some red tone under strong LED light, and it is a vigorous grower that fills out a pot faster than a lot of the species crosses I sell. Some clones drop into a light succulent dormancy in winter and some do not, so do not worry if yours keeps growing straight through.

Like the rest of my Pinguicula, it earns its keep as a fungus gnat trap on a windowsill or plant shelf, and it is a genuinely good starting point if you have not grown a butterwort before.

**Light** — Bright indirect to direct light. More light supports more flowering.

**Water** — Distilled water, rainwater, or reverse osmosis only. Tray method during active growth.

**Soil** — A well draining, low nutrient mix. Perlite heavy blend or a purpose made Pinguicula soil.

**Temperature** — 60 to 85°F. No frost tolerance.

**Dormancy** — Minimal and inconsistent between clones. Some plants form a light succulent rosette in winter, others keep growing.

## Shipping

Your plant ships bare root, packed carefully for transit. Pot it up on arrival in a well draining, low nutrient mix. A perlite heavy blend or purpose made Pinguicula soil works well.

If your order arrives in winter, it may already be settling into a light dormancy with smaller leaves, or it may still be actively growing. Either is normal for this hybrid.
