Pinguicula 'Pirouette'

'Pirouette' is a complex hybrid, agnata crossed onto moranensis x ehlersiae, and it is one of the easiest Mexican butterworts I grow. Give it strong light and the leaves shift from green toward a bronze or deep pink, and it throws large lavender to violet flowers on and off through most of the year rather than on one tight schedule. Unlike a lot of the Mexican Pinguicula I sell, 'Pirouette' does not drop into a hard succulent dormancy. The leaves get a little smaller and tighter in winter, but it stays carnivorous and keeps growing, which makes it a forgiving plant for anyone newer to butterworts.

I have ten of these ready to go. It is a vigorous grower, forgiving on watering compared to some of the fussier species, and it is a genuinely good gnat trap for a windowsill or a shelf next to the rest of your carnivorous plants or houseplants.

## Care at a Glance

**Light** — Bright indirect to direct light. Strong light is what pushes the bronze and pink color into the leaves.

**Dormancy** — Minimal. 'Pirouette' stays carnivorous year round, with only slightly smaller leaves in winter. Ease off watering a bit during that stretch, but do not expect a full succulent phase.

## Shipping

Your plant ships bare root, packed carefully for transit. Pot it up on arrival in a well draining, low nutrient mix. A perlite heavy blend or purpose made Pinguicula soil works well.

Because 'Pirouette' does not go fully dormant, it should look close to active growth whenever it arrives, even in winter. Just ease it in with slightly reduced watering for the first week or two.
