This rare three-way cross was bred by Phil Faulisi, combining S. leucophylla ‘Purple Lips’ x Mesa Exotics to produce large, vigorous pitchers with purple-hued lips. Faulisi’s seed was then sent to Kirk Simpson, who grew the cross out and completed the selection process.
The third parent is S. purpurea ssp. venosa from Tattnall County, Georgia, one of the southernmost known populations of the subspecies. That venosa lineage brings the compact tubby form, undulating hoods, and brilliant red veining the Tattnall County population is known for, coloration that opens spring green and deepens into rich crimson through the growing season.
The result is a complex hybrid that carries documented wild-origin venosa genetics alongside the scale and vigor of a well-bred Faulisi leucophylla line. Two respected names in American Sarracenia breeding, one genuinely uncommon plant.
Our bare root Sarracenia (North American pitcher plants) are shipped according to their natural growing cycle. During the active growing season (spring through early fall), you'll receive a plant with live foliage, often including vibrant pitchers. In the winter months, Sarracenia naturally enter dormancy, and will be shipped without leaves or with brown, dying pitchers—this is completely normal and essential for the plant's long-term health. Please note that the plant and photo shown are representative of the variety but not the exact plant you will receive. Each plant is unique, and we guarantee a healthy, established rhizome ready to grow.
