This is a mix of 2026 seed collected from all of my Venus flytrap mother pots. I have been breeding flytraps for years, and these pots hold a wide range of my best plants, from big trap selections to heavily colored and oddly shaped forms.

Because the seed comes from so many different parents, you should see a lot of variation in what comes up. Some seedlings may stay green, some may color up deep red, and some may surprise you with unusual traps or teeth. Flytraps do not come true from seed, so every plant you raise from this pack is its own individual, and that is half the fun. Who knows, you might find your next favorite plant in here.

Each pack contains approximately 30 seeds, harvested in 2026.

Seed Starting Guide

Sowing — Sprinkle seed on the surface of the soil and do not bury it. Flytrap seed needs light to germinate. Fresh seed does not need cold stratification. Sow as soon as you can, since flytrap seed loses viability over time.

Soil — A fine, moist mix of peat moss with a little perlite or silica sand, or milled sphagnum. Never use regular potting soil or fertilized mixes.

Water — Pure water only, under 50ppm dissolved solids. Water from below by setting the pot in a shallow tray so the seed is not washed around. Keep the surface moist at all times. A gentle mist works for the top layer.

Light — Bright grow lights 12 to 16 hours a day, set a few inches above the pots. Keep covered pots out of direct sun, since sun on a closed dome can cook seedlings quickly.

Temperature — Warm, around 70–85°F. Most seed sprouts in about two to six weeks.

Humidity — Cover the pot with a clear dome or bag to keep humidity high. Once seedlings have a few traps, start venting the cover a little more each week until they are used to open air.

First Winter — Skip dormancy the first winter and keep seedlings growing under lights. Give them their first cool winter rest the following year.

Transplanting — Let seedlings grow together in the starter pot for their first year, then move them into their own pots once they are crowded. Plants usually reach flowering size in three to five years.
