Heliamphora ionasi represents one of the genus's most dramatic pitchers, with distinctive bumps supporting hair-like structures reaching 11mm—the longest in Heliamphora—that line the interior of 20-50cm vessels. Wistuba's MS-Ges clone displays the species' signature peach tones suffused with vivid pinks and reds, topped by a variably-angled red oval nectar spoon, originating from the remote 1800-2600m elevation zone between Ilu and Tramen Tepui in Venezuela.
Care Requirements
Light — Bright indirect light or moderate direct sun. Avoid intense midday sun — Heliamphora prefer cooler, highland conditions.
Water — Pure water only, under 50ppm dissolved solids. Use distilled, reverse osmosis, or collected rainwater. Most tap water will not work. Keep the pitchers partially filled with water and the soil consistently moist.
Temperature — Cool to intermediate. Day temps of 65–80°F (18–27°C) with cooler nights of 45–60°F (7–16°C). Many species require cool nights year-round.
Soil — Pure long-fiber sphagnum moss or a mix of peat and perlite. Garden soil will not work.
Humidity — High humidity preferred, 60–90%. A terrarium or greenhouse setup is ideal for most species.
