Heliamphora uncinata SG Andy S. hails from the misty heights of Amurí-tepui at 1,850 meters, where this remarkable species evolved its signature hook-shaped pitcher appendage—a distinctive feature that gives the species its name. This seed-grown line from Andy Smith's collection produces greenish pitchers reaching 25–35 cm with deep red nectar spoons and sharply recurved appendages, making it instantly recognizable to collectors familiar with this iconic cloud forest endemic.
Care Requirements
Light — Bright indirect light or moderate direct sun. Avoid intense midday sun — Heliamphora prefer cooler, highland conditions.
Water — Pure water only, under 50ppm dissolved solids. Use distilled, reverse osmosis, or collected rainwater. Most tap water will not work. Keep the pitchers partially filled with water and the soil consistently moist.
Temperature — Cool to intermediate. Day temps of 65–80°F (18–27°C) with cooler nights of 45–60°F (7–16°C). Many species require cool nights year-round.
Soil — Pure long-fiber sphagnum moss or a mix of peat and perlite. Garden soil will not work.
Humidity — High humidity preferred, 60–90%. A terrarium or greenhouse setup is ideal for most species.
