These Taerwe Tropicals imports are still fairly new, brought in during July 2026, so yours may arrive without an active pitcher just yet. They have had enough time in my care to settle in well, and I am confident they will grow great once they have found their new home.
Few Nepenthes hybrids carry a pedigree this deep. NP96 stacks six species and generations of deliberate breeding into a single cross, and the parent plants pictured here show exactly why that work was worth it. Both display the wide, heavily ribbed peristomes and rich burgundy striping that make this line so sought after.
Nepenthes lowii and Nepenthes veitchii each appear multiple times in the lineage, lending their constricted, waisted pitcher shape and wide, flared peristome respectively. Nepenthes boschiana contributes a broad, funnel shaped peristome and robust growth, while Nepenthes maxima adds wide natural variation in pitcher form and coloration. The Rokko ‘Exotica’ line, a hybrid developed by Exotica Plants of Australia, brings additional size and color intensity into the mix. Nepenthes edwardsiana, native to Mount Kinabalu and Mount Tambuyukon in Borneo, closes out the parentage with its ribbed peristome and striking red tones.
As a seed grown plant, each individual carries its own unique mix of traits from this parentage. No two plants in a batch will be identical, and pitcher shape, coloration, and vigor will vary as the plants mature.
Sourced directly from Taerwe Tropicals of Belgium through our exclusive US partnership.
