Pinguicula zecheri 'Faulisi'

'Faulisi' is a zecheri cultivar with one of the biggest flowers in the genus, an oversized, ruffled, hot pink bloom with a contrasting white throat that stops people at plant shows. It was registered in 2022 by Howard Bramble, who received the original plant as a gift in 2017 from a grower who had kept it alive for about a decade after receiving it from a well known collector. That kind of chain of custody is part of what makes a good cultivar story, and 'Faulisi' has one of the better ones.

Leaves stay mostly green with the edges shifting to pink or purple under strong light, and the rosette is a manageable size for a windowsill or a shelf under lights. It is also known as a generous pollen parent if you get into your own crosses down the road.

Like the rest of my Pinguicula, this is a working plant as much as an ornamental one. The sticky leaves are effective fungus gnat traps for a shelf next to your other carnivorous plants or houseplants.

## Care at a Glance

**Light** — Bright indirect to direct light. Strong light pushes the pink and purple color into the leaf edges.

**Water** — Distilled water, rainwater, or reverse osmosis only. Tray method during active growth.

**Soil** — A well draining, low nutrient mix. Perlite heavy blend or a purpose made Pinguicula soil.

**Temperature** — 60 to 85°F. No frost tolerance.

**Dormancy** — Expect a smaller, tighter succulent rosette in winter. Cut back on water while it is in that phase.

**Humidity** — Adaptable. No terrarium required.

## Shipping

Your plant ships bare root, packed carefully for transit. Pot it up on arrival in a well draining, low nutrient mix. A perlite heavy blend or purpose made Pinguicula soil works well.

If your order arrives in winter, it may already be settling into its succulent dormancy phase with smaller, tighter leaves. That is normal. Hold off on heavy watering until it is clearly back in active growth.
