Pinguicula gigantea x cyclosecta

This is a cross I like for the contrast alone. gigantea is one of the biggest butterworts in cultivation, with wide, glossy leaves that are actually sticky on both the top and bottom surface, something almost no other Pinguicula does. cyclosecta sits at the other end of the size chart, a miniature species from Nuevo Leon that rarely gets bigger than a coin but turns a deep, almost metallic purple under strong light. Cross the two and you get a plant with real size potential and a good shot at that purple cyclosecta color carried through the leaves, which is not something you see in gigantea on its own.

I have a couple of these ready to ship. Like the rest of my Pinguicula, they are working plants as much as ornamental ones. The sticky leaves pull in fungus gnats and other small flying pests, so they earn their spot on a windowsill next to the rest of your carnivorous plant or houseplant collection.

## Care at a Glance

**Light** — Bright indirect to direct light. Strong light is what pushes the purple color from the cyclosecta side of this cross.

**Water** — Distilled water, rainwater, or reverse osmosis only. Tray method during active growth.

**Soil** — A well draining, low nutrient mix. Perlite heavy blend or a purpose made Pinguicula soil.

**Temperature** — 60 to 85°F. No frost tolerance.

**Dormancy** — Expect a smaller, tighter succulent rosette in winter. Cut back on water while it is in that phase.

**Humidity** — Adaptable. No terrarium required.

## Shipping

Your plant ships bare root, packed carefully for transit. Pot it up on arrival in a well draining, low nutrient mix. A perlite heavy blend or purpose made Pinguicula soil works well.

If your order arrives in winter, it may already be settling into its succulent dormancy phase with smaller, tighter leaves. That is normal. Hold off on heavy watering until it is clearly back in active growth.
