This naturally occurring hybrid between S. leucophylla and S. psittacina was collected from Washington County, Alabama, where × wrigleyana has been documented growing wild. The "Lobster" designation likely references the lobster-pot trapping mechanism inherited from its psittacina parent, creating a distinctive form that bridges the elegant white-topped pitchers of leucophylla with the ground-hugging, entrance-hooded traps of the parrot pitcher.
