Utricularia geminiloba is a terrestrial bladderwort from Brazil, and it is a nice change of pace from the epiphytic species. It stays low and compact in the pot, fills in over time, and sends up slender stems of purple flowers that sit well above the leaves. It is not something you see offered very often, so if you are building out a Utricularia collection this one is worth grabbing while it is here.
Like the rest of the genus, it has no traps on its leaves at all. Instead it catches prey underground with tiny bladder traps spread through the wet media, pulling in microscopic soil life in a fraction of a second. Keep it wet and bright and it is a very rewarding plant.
Quick Care Guide: Terrestrial Utricularia
Media: my peat-perlite mix or long fiber sphagnum moss both work well.
Moisture: keep it wet. Sitting the pot in a shallow tray of water is the easiest way to do it.
Light: bright light. More light means more flowers.
Humidity: moderate to high humidity keeps it happiest, and a terrarium or greenhouse works great.
Water: distilled or rainwater only, same as every other carnivorous plant in the collection.
Note: Shipped bare-root. Pot and media sold separately, see my pre-filled pots if you want a ready to go home for it.
